How Far are You Willing to Stand up for what You Believe In?

Hi my Lovely Readers, 

            The other day a friend asked me about a song and if I have heard of it (Cassie by Flyleaf). At first I said no and he said I should look it up and it was about a girl commenting suicide. I went to look it up today and realized I indeed have actually heard of it, it has just been a very long time since I have and it wasn’t about suicide. This song is about the Columbine shooting and a girl who died in it. Cassie died because another student was asked if he believed in God and she answered for him saying yes. She was shot in the head and it was an instant death. She saved the fellow student’s life instead of saving her life. She stood up for her belief in God. 

Now before I go any further with this post I’d like to state that this is my blog and I am going to express my opinions in matters. You may not like what I might have to say, however I would like to ask for you to respect what I have to say. I do not care what religion or faith you may have all I care about is you follow your faith, respect other’s faith, and do your research before saying anything about another religion.

With that being said I would like to continue my post. I started thinking about how much Cassie believed in her faith, so much that she was willing to die for it. How many of us truly believe in something 100% even if it meant giving up their life? I started to really think about this and started to wonder if I would be able to do this. I am Catholic and I do follow my faith. I like to consider myself more than the Holiday church goer, I try to go every weekend and yes before you ask I love to go to church. I love the way I feel when I leave church I feel happier, I won’t lie I do get distracted at times in church, but when I am in church I love how I feel I love the way it makes me think. One thing that a Priest once said that has always stuck with me is that when you stop questioning your faith you no longer have faith. Which is true in my opinion, having faith means you’re thinking of it and questioning it, it is kind of hard to explain it but you either get it or you don’t. With that all being said I would like to say that I think  if there was a gun next to my head and I knew how I would answer a question depended on whether or not I would live I’d say yes. I cannot know for sure if I truly would do this since I have not been put in that situation before and hopefully will never be in it. I based this answer on how I react in everyday life. When faith gets put in a situation with me I always say what I truly mean and do, trust me I get a lot of looks that I’m crazy when I say yes I pray, go to church, and yes I love it. It makes me wonder is it bad that I can say I love something and can stand up for it.

This brings me to my other thought, we all say we like something or have an opinion on an issue but when it comes down to it do you really stick with it. Here is an example we all know there is a Presidential election coming up this year (and if you don’t go turn on the news). Every candidate is stating what they belief in and what they will do to make this country better. In all honesty no matter which one gets into office they all will change their opinion on issues. For one it is not up to the president whether or not something happens, yes they have an influence of matters and can bring issues up but it is up to congress mostly on what happens next. Most people change their mind based on who they are with to. I’ve seen myself do it before, I also tend to change my mind based on learning more facts the other person tells me. However, once I get my research done on an issue and feel confident with my choice there is no way someone can make me change it. I have also seen it where people are so stuck on an opinion they won’t budge. It could literally be the sky is red instead of blue. They believe it and won’t bother to research it to know the truth. What does it take to really form belief in something?

The way people’s mind work is something else. We form opinions without knowing all the facts or some people do so much research they refuse to open up their minds. I think what I have come to accept as to how I form my beliefs is if a gun was next to my head would I be willing to stand behind my opinion knowing that my answer could cost me my life. Humans are meant to change their minds on subjects, but if you are for a certain issue you better be able to say yes I stand for it when it could cost you your life. I may be young but I think with the beliefs I have and feel 100% in I would stick up for them even if there was a gun next to my head.
